The Fruit Way

Published 11th May 2022

Fruit of the Loom believe a more sustainable Fruitful future is for everyone. Doing the right thing ethically and environmentally has been The Fruit Way for a long time now.

Here are some of the actions they have been taking over the last few years.

Ethical manufacturing has always been important to Fruit of the Loom, with most of your favourite styles made entirely by them at their purpose built factory in Morocco. From the Iconic & Valueweight T-Shirts to the Premium Polos and Classic Sweats many styles are made in Morocco to the highest ethical and environmental standards.

Other garments are sourced from suppliers across the globe, all of which are independently verified according to a strict code of conduct. They will only work with businesses who meet their high sustainability and environmental standards and those who are committed to employee safety and fair remuneration - with zero child or forced labour. This is backed up through certifications with credible independent assessment organisations such as WRAP and Oeko-Tex. Fruit of the Loom are also members of both Amfori and Better Cotton, provide additional confidence to you when you are choosing Fruit of the Loom.

Since 2012 they have published 100% of the suppliers they work with - still only one of 1/3 of apparel companies world-wide who do this - and by 2025 they have set themselves the ambitious target of mapping all their global suppliers back to raw materials.

Another part of the Fruit Way is using renewable energy wherever possible. 75% of all energy used to produce products for Europe, in the Moroccan plant, is renewable - using the natural power of wind energy. They are also currently developing plans to add solar power to their production to make themselves even greener and cleaner.

Using technology designed for their needs, Fruit of the Loom is able to reuse up to 60% of all waste water. The waste water recovery programme uses activated sludge as pre-treatment, plus sand filtration, ultra-filtration and reverse osmosis - a process more generally applied to desalination of salt water. This allows them to recycle brackish dyeing water to help reduce consumption and preserve the earth's precious resources. They are one of only a few companies in the world to do this.

These are some of the ways The Fruit Way is helping to ensure all Fruit of the Loom garments are made with a commitment to sustainable manufacturing. But to read more and find out about their Fruitful Futures Plans you can visit their website here:  The Fruit Way (fruitoftheloom.eu)
